Residential Crisis Support

The first of its kind in New York City, our Residential Crisis Support program is an alternative to emergency hospitalization for individuals 18 and up experiencing psychiatric and/or emotional crises. Based on the principles of peer-support and self-determination, we are staffed 24-7 and seek to provide a welcoming and supportive home-like environment in which people in distress can access peer support and make plans for moving forward with their lives and goals.

WELCOME

For too long the default destination for New Yorkers in distress has been either the emergency room or prison. Our Residential Crisis Support program instead offers warmth, empathy, and compassion together with access to a wide range of recovery-oriented services:

  • 24-hour support from peers (individuals with lived experience of receiving mental health services and trained to provide support to others)
  • Self-advocacy and education
  • Coping skills and self-care
  • Group and one-on-one services and activities, including art, poetry, WRAP planning, meditation, goal-setting, meal-planning, budgeting, and wellness skills
  • Exploration of and connection to community resources

Stays at the Crisis Residence are voluntary – and to the fullest possible extent, guests are welcome to continue their regular schedules outside the program (for example, at work, with treatment providers, at school, et cetera) during their stay.
